    Uses Notes:

Superbena are great in landscape beds, but are also wonderful in patio planters and hanging baskets by themselves. The superbena cobalt verbena works well as a trailing verbena plant in containers and combination planters, while also spreading nicely as a verbena ground cover plant. The vibrant blue purple verbena flowers provide continuous color from spring through fall.

    Maintenance Notes:

Superbena® verbena plants are easy to grow and will flower non-stop from planting to frost if simple maintenance tasks are performed. Growing Superbena in full sun to part sun is important for their strong growth and bloom performance. They do not require deadheading, meaning the removal of spent flowers, to stay in bloom all season.

These heat tolerant annuals typically require a bit less water and feeding than many kinds of flowering annuals. If your garden soil is very heavy and tends to stay soggy for a while after it rains, plant your Superbena verbena in a container instead of in the ground. Let the soil dry out a little bit between waterings, but do not let the plants wilt severely before watering again.

Superbena performs best when fed with Proven Winners plant foods. At planting time, in containers and landscapes, mix Proven Winners Premium Continuous Release Plant Food into the soil, following the rates specified on the packaging. In containers, reapply halfway through the growing season. In the ground, a single application in spring is typically sufficient.

Additionally, Superbena verbena should be fed with Proven Winners Premium Water Soluble Plant Food every ten days to two weeks according to the rates specified on the packaging.

Superbena does not require much trimming to keep it looking great all season. If you’d like your plants to have a fuller, bushier shape, trim up to 20% off the ends of the stems midseason. Follow up by feeding them with water soluble plant food to promote fresh new growth and blooms.

    • I have 4 of these and they have performed very well in pots and in the ground in blazing sun for several hours daily. I have one in a pot that's gotten to about 2.5' wide. Also, these continued to bloom well even when the temps in my area were in the 90s most days in June and July and the humidity has been extremely high. I live in zone 8 in SE Va, which gets hot and humid from mid or late spring to early fall.

    • Gorgeous color and so easy to care for! So far, it’s handling the heat well in my southwest-facing garden in zone 7A. Looks great next to the Jazzberry Supertunia.

    • I LOVE this plant! I grow verbena in containers every year but have never had a verbena be so healthy and so large and so beautiful! The color is a rich purple, the flowers are like round golf balls and when they fade they have a silvery tone to it. My containers are spectacular this year and it is thanks to Imperial Blue verbena.
